NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said around 5,000 police officers and other security forces will be deployed to secure the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) National Rally for Peace to be held at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Aberin said at least 4,400 will be from the Philippine National Police (PNP) while the remaining will come from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The police official said the number does not include the usual deployment and anti-criminality teams.
Several roads near the rally area will be closed starting 4 a.m. Monday. They are the Katigbak Drive and South Drive, Independence Road; both lanes of Roxas Blvd. from Katigbak Drive to UN Ave.; both lanes of Bonifacio Drive from Katigbak Drive to Anda Circle; P. Burgos Ave. from Victoria St. to Roxas Blvd.; Ma. Orosa St. from P. Burgos Ave. to UN Ave.; Finance Rd. from P. Burgos Ave. to Taft Ave.; Gen. Luna roundtable; and Kalaw Ave. from Taft Ave. to Roxas Blvd.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will help prepare alternate routes and dispatch some 1,300 to help in traffic management going to and from the venue.
Malacañang has suspended work in government offices and classes in all levels in Manila and Pasay City.
However, agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and those performing vital services will remain operational during the said date.
“The suspension of work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads,” Memorandum Circular (MC) No.76 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on January 10, 2025 stated.
The INC rally is being organized to express support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s stance against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
President Marcos earlier said he does not support calls for VP Duterte’s impeachment as it would not help the Filipino people.
The Vice President is facing three impeachment complaints in the House of Representatives.
