A 21-YEAR-OLD college student allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself inside a church in Iloilo.
The victim was a resident of Calinog, Iloilo and a Business Administration student at the Passi City College.
He died from a gunshot wound in the head.
Witnesses told police that they saw the victim arrived on a tricycle and entered the church around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Moments later a church caretaker said he heard a gunshot prompting him to check.
The church caretaker was shocked to see the young man bleeding from the head.. He immediately sought for help.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Probers recovered at the crime scene a note in which the student apologized to his family and provided the PIN codes of his two mobile phones.
Family members, who are based in Metro Manila, confirmed to authorities that personal problems may have pushed the victim to end his life.
An investigation showed it was not the young man’s first attempt.
Based on the note, the victim has already attempted to end his life in October 2022.
The Passi City College, in a statement, mourned the loss of one of its students. It was learned that the victim was doing well in school prior to his death.
“The community extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by the light he brought into our lives. Let us come together in remembrance and prayer for him,” the PCC statement read.
Church leaders urged the faithful not to pass judgment but instead to offer prayers for the victim and his family.
