EIGHT policemen are under investigation after they were accused of robbing a house in an anti-narcotics operation in Pasig City.
According to acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., the accused personnel are all assigned at the Eastern Police District – Drug Enforcement Unit.
The eight cops were placed under restrictive custody at the Pasig City Police Station as the Internal Affairs Service, in coordination with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), investigates the incident.
The eight police officers were also disarmed of their service firearms.
Nartatez said he will not allow a handful of bad eggs to drag down the police organization.
The top cop said that if proven to have committed the offense, the accused cops will not only be dismissed from the service but will also face jail time.
The official warned that abusive practices have no place in the PNP.
Initial investigation showed the alleged robbery occurred at around 2:05 p.m. on Dec. 26 in Bgy. Palatiw, Pasig City.
According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the eight police officers entered a house in Bgy. Palatiw in search of a drug suspect.
The residents reported that their personal belongings were taken, prompting them to seek assistance from the Pasig City Police Station.
During verification, it was found out that there were no official documents presented to support the conduct of a legitimate anti-illegal drugs operation in the area.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said all those involved in the operation are set to undergo inquest proceedings.
