PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to provide overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) access to affordable housing through low-interest loan packages under the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.
“Ayon kay Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, naging posible ito dahil malinaw ang direktiba ng Pangulo,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a Palace press briefing on Monday.
“Gawing mas abot-kaya, mas mabilis at mas accessible ang pabahay para sa bawat Pilipino, at kabilang dito ang ating mga bagong bayani na OFWs,” Castro also said.
Castro said the government, through the DHSUD and the Pag-IBIG Fund, is now offering OFWs an exemption from the monthly salary cap, and that OFWs will be included as priority beneficiaries in the Expanded 4PH Program.
“Patuloy ang pamahalaan sa pagpapalakas at pagpapalawak ng 4PH Program sa buong bansa upang gawing realidad ang pangarap ng marami nating kababayan… ang magkaroon ng sariling bahay na uuwian,” Castro said.
Under the Expanded 4PH, qualified beneficiaries, particularly the working class, may avail of socialized housing through the Pag-IBIG Fund at a subsidized interest rate of as low as 3 percent per annum for up to 10 years—the lowest in the market today, the DHSUD said in a statement.
The DHSUD said this translates to significantly reduced monthly amortizations. Currently, more than 10,000 families have already availed of the said interest rate, the agency said.
Castro said OFWs have expressed gratitude for the government’s offer as they have been included as priority beneficiaries in the Expanded 4PH Program.
“Dahil matapos ang maraming taon na pagsasakripisyo sa ibang bayan, ngayon ay may matatawag na silang sariling tahanan. Isang tahanan na ligtas, maayos at may dignidad,” Castro said.
With sustained reforms and expanded strategies, DHSUD remains committed to making housing more inclusive, affordable, and responsive to the diverse needs of Filipino communities, and to ensuring no one is left behind in the pursuit of a dignified life.
