THE International Criminal Court (ICC) on Monday confirmed the issuance of a warrant of arrest against Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
According to the ICC, the document was issued on Nov. 6 by the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber for Dela Rosa’s alleged criminal responsibility as an “indirect co-perpetrator” in the killings that took place during the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
The ICC unsealed and formally classified the document as “public” on May 11.
The ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I said Dela Rosa’s alleged involvement in the so-called “common plan” amounts to a “crime against humanity of murder” committed at least between July 3, 2016 and the end of April 2018 in the Philippines, “during which no less than 32 persons were killed.
On Monday, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, showed to mediamen a copy of the ICC warrant of arrest.
Trillanes was with the agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) who attempted to arrest Dela Rosa.
NBI SEEN ON CCTV CHASING ‘BATO’ INSIDE SENATE PREMISES
The NBI, along with Trillanes, reportedly entered the Senate premises to serve the arrest order from the ICC.
CCTV footages showed several NBI agents chasing Dela Rosa and his staff members in an attempt to arrest the senator.
Dela Rosa, who had not been seen in public since November, attended a Senate session on Monday and cast a vote to oust Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Meanwhile, the Senate has placed Dela Rosa under its protective custody.
