THE House of Representatives on Wednesday night transmitted to the Senate the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte.
House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil and House Sergeant-at-Arms Ferdinand Melchor Dela Cruz delivered to the Senate House Resolution No. 989, which contains Committee Report No. 261 and the articles of impeachment.
This after the Lower Chamber voted to impeach the Vice President on Monday.
A total of 257 lawmakers voted to impeach Duterte.
In a 257-25-9 vote, the House supported the impeachment complaints against VP Duterte on the grounds of alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, and supposed assassination plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.., First Lady Liza Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The delivery of the articles of impeachment occurred on the same night chaos erupted at the Senate after gunshots were heard inside the building, prompting a lackdown and panic.
The incident occurred amid high tensions surrounding an attempt to arrest Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa who was under the Senate protective custody following a warrant of arrest from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity during the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
