POLICE on Friday failed to serve a warrant for the arrest of Kapuso actor Ken Chan after he was not found at his home in Quezon City.
Chan, along with seven others, is facing syndicated estafa charges over an alleged anomalous investment deal worth P14 million for a restaurant venture in 2022.
The actor allegedly failed to deliver on the sharing deal, prompting the complaint.
Under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code, syndicated estafa is non-bailable and punishable with lifetime imprisonment.
Attorney Joseph Noel Estrada and attorney Maverick Romero of Estrada & Aquino Law Office represent the complainant, a businessman who refused to be identified.
The lawyer said the complainant transacted with Chan and gave the P14 million in two tranches in less than a year.
Chan allegedly convinced the complainant to invest in a restaurant business to receive a 10% monthly interest.
Estrada added that Chan and his co-accused are not authorized to solicit investments.
“Using misrepresentation and fraudulent escapes, nakakuha sila ng pera dito sa complainant,” the lawyer said.
In 2023 the complainant filed a complaint against Chan, the lawyer said.
Police first attempted to serve Chan with a warrant of arrest in September. The actor was also a no-show at the time.
