A WORKER at a robotics company was crushed to death after a malfunctioning robot mistook him for a box of vegetables in South Korea, Yonhap reported Wednesday.
An investigation showed the man, who was in his 40’s, was checking the machine’s sensor ahead of a test run at the facility for a new sorting line when the tragic incident happened.
Police said a robotic arm at a produce distribution center pushed the worker against the conveyor belt, crushing his face and chest.
The victim succumbed to severe injuries later at a hospital.
According to the South Korean news agency, the robot was tasked with picking up boxes of peppers and placing them onto pallets at the plant in South Gyeongsang province.
The man was an employee at the robotics company that manufactured the arm.
The robot had been in operation in the company for about five years.
