OPERATIVES arrested the alleged “brains” and an accomplice in the murder in November 2018 of Dominic Sytin, a multi-millionaire businessman in Subic.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said Sytin’s younger brother, Alan Dennis Lim Sytin, the alleged mastermind, was arrested in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia on March 22.
“You can run, but you can never truly hide. This arrest proves that no matter how long it takes, justice will always prevail,” Fajardo said.
According to Fajardo, Alan Dennis was one of Central Luzon’s most wanted fugitives who had a P10-million bounty for his capture.
The second suspect, Edrian T. Rementilla alias “Ryan Rementilla/Oliver Fuentes,” the subject of a P4 million reward, was tracked down in his hideout in Purok 16, Buhanginan Hills in Bgy. Pala-o, Iligan City around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday.
The murder of the Subic entrepreneur, which took place on November 28, 2018 in front of a hotel in Subic Bay Freeport, was a high-profile case that shook the business community.
Gunman Edgardo Luib, who was arrested and convicted, confessed that Alan Dennis Lim Sytin orchestrated the killing. Rementilla was tagged as a “middleman” in the hit job.
The PRO3 sought the help of the Office of the Police Attaché in Malaysia, which coordinated closely with the Royal Malaysia Police, to arrest the alleged mastermind.
Following intensive intelligence and surveillance operations, authorities successfully tracked and captured Sytin.
Efforts are now underway to facilitate Sytin’s immediate repatriation to the Philippines, where he will face legal proceedings, said the PRO3 director.
“This operation highlights the power of international cooperation in bringing fugitives to justice. It sends a strong message that no one can escape accountability, no matter where they flee,” said Fajardo.
In November 2019, the Olongapo City RTC Branch 72 sentenced to life imprisonment Luib after finding him guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
Judge Richard Paradeza also convicted Luib for frustrated murder in connection with the shooting of Sytin’s bodyguard Efren Espartero.
Luib pleaded guilty to the murder and frustrated murder cases filed against him and confessed that he was “hired” by the victim’s brother to kill the Subic millionaire.
Sytin’s brother has denied all the allegations against him.
