FOUR new mpox (monkeypox) cases were detected in Calabarzon region, the Department of Health on Friday confirmed.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The discovery brought the total number of mpox cases in the region to 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The DOH said the four patients, aged 24-66, started experiencing symptoms in the first week of November. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Two of the new cases were male patients from Rizal, and a male patient and a female patient from Laguna.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The four tested positive for mpox virus. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the DOH, the three male patients are in home isolation and being monitored while the female patient required hospitalization but has since recovered as of November 19.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The DOH Calabarzon Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) said it is closely monitoring the situation to prevent further spread. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Public were advised to stay alert and maintain proper hygiene practices such as frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes and avoiding close contact with those who are sick.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n DOH Assistant Secretary Ariel Valencia urged the public to remain alert and avoid panic.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWe must remain vigilant, especially as the number of mpox cases is increasing in the region. However, there is no need for alarm. With robust public health measures such as effective prevention, accurate detection and timely isolation of mpox cases, we can curb its spread and protect our community,\u201d Valencia said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mpox is a contagious disease caused by the monkeypox virus.
