A 75-YEAR-OLD man on Wednesday died in a fire believed triggered by a cellphone being charged and left unattended in Makati.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Police identified the victim as Arturo Ope\u00f1ano.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The victim\u2019s family told police that Ope\u00f1ano had blurry vision and moved slowly that probably made him difficult to escape the raging blaze.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Firefighters said the blaze spread to the houses in Jasmin corner Champaka Streets.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Witnesses told police that they heard an explosion while the firefighters were extinguishing the fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Responding personnel of the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) declared a fire out at 1:53 p.m. of the same day.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The old man\u2019s remains were recovered from the debris during clearing operation.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the victim\u2019s son, said his father was alone in the house since he was at work when the incident happened.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Authorities said three people were also injured while traying to escape the fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Seven families were left homeless by the blaze.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A 75-YEAR-OLD man on Wednesday died in a fire believed triggered by a cellphone being charged and left unattended in Makati.
