{"id":12390,"date":"2025-03-12T03:43:18","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T19:43:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=12390"},"modified":"2025-03-12T03:43:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-11T19:43:19","slug":"duterte-flown-to-the-hague-for-icc-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2025\/03\/12\/duterte-flown-to-the-hague-for-icc-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"DUTERTE FLOWN TO THE HAGUE FOR ICC TRIAL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday night was flown from Villamor Air Base to the International Criminal Court (ICC) headquarters in The Hague, <strong>the Netherlands, following his arrest on the same day.<\/strong><strong><strong> <\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>A prosecutor general from the ICC had served a warrant of arrest against Duterte upon his arrival to the Philippines from Hong Kong<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Duterte&#8217;s arrest comes after the ICC issued a warrant against him over allegations of crimes against humanity in connection with his administration&#8217;s controversial war on drugs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The former president, who served from 2016 to 2022, oversaw a bloody anti-drug campaign that led to thousands of deaths, many of which were alleged to be extrajudicial killings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2018, Duterte withdrew the Philippines from the ICC after the tribunal launched a preliminary investigation into his drug war policies.
