THERE were no reports of Filipinos injured by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit Myanmar Friday afternoon, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The United States Geological Survey said the <\/strong> epicenter of the quake was about 17.2 km from the city of Mandalay in Myanmar.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n It was followed minutes later by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tremors were also felt in Thailand, and a 30-storey building under construction collapsed in Bangkok, trapping <\/strong>43 workers, police and medics said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In a statement, the Embassy said it is closely monitoring the situation, and will provide updates as developments arise.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n “The Embassy is closely monitoring developments and reports that there are currently no reports of damage or casualties from the approximately 811 registered Filipino nationals residing and working in Myanmar,” it said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In Thailand, the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok also said there are no Filipinos harmed or affected by the earthquake.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The PH Embassy advised Filipinos in Thailand to remain calm and vigilant, as well as monitor updates from credible and verifiable sources of information.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Based on the record of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), there are 32,950 Filipinos in Thailand.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n PH READY TO HELP<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Philippines has expressed condolences to the victims of the very strong earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Department of Health (DOH) today (Saturday, March 29, 2025) said the Philippines is ready to help as casualties were reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n “Nakikiramay tayo sa mga kaibigan, kapitbahay natin sa Myanmar at Thailand,” DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega told a radio interview.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Initial reports said the powerful quake killed over 150 people in Myanmar.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" THERE were no reports of Filipinos injured by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit Myanmar Friday afternoon, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar said.
