{"id":12804,"date":"2025-03-29T11:29:01","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T03:29:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=12804"},"modified":"2025-03-29T11:29:01","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T03:29:01","slug":"no-filipinos-hurt-in-myanmar-thailand-quake-ph-embassy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2025\/03\/29\/no-filipinos-hurt-in-myanmar-thailand-quake-ph-embassy\/","title":{"rendered":"NO FILIPINOS HURT IN MYANMAR, THAILAND QUAKE \u2013 PH EMBASSY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>THERE were no reports of Filipinos injured by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit Myanmar Friday afternoon, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The United States Geological Survey said the <\/strong><strong>&nbsp;epicenter of the quake was about 17.2 km from the city of Mandalay in Myanmar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>It was followed minutes later by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tremors were also felt in Thailand, and a 30-storey building under construction collapsed in Bangkok, trapping <\/strong><strong>43 workers, police and medics said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a statement, the Embassy said it is closely monitoring the situation, and will provide updates as developments arise.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The Embassy is closely monitoring developments and reports that there are currently no reports of damage or casualties from the approximately 811 registered Filipino nationals residing and working in Myanmar,&#8221; it said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>In Thailand, the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok also said there are no Filipinos harmed or affected by the earthquake.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The PH Embassy advised Filipinos in Thailand to remain calm and vigilant, as well as monitor updates from credible and verifiable sources of information.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Based on the record of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), there are 32,950 Filipinos in Thailand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>PH READY TO HELP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Philippines has expressed condolences to the victims of the very strong earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Department of Health (DOH) today (Saturday, March 29, 2025) said the Philippines is ready to help as casualties were reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Nakikiramay tayo sa mga kaibigan, kapitbahay natin sa Myanmar at Thailand,&#8221; DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega told a radio interview.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Initial reports said the powerful quake killed over 150 people in Myanmar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THERE were no reports of Filipinos injured by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit Myanmar Friday afternoon, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar said.
