ASIA\u2019S Queen of Songs Pilita Coralles has passed away at the age of 85.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pilita\u2019s granddaughter, Janine Gutierrez, announced the heartbreaking news of the passing of her “mamita.” <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mami and mamita, Pilita Corrales,” Janine wrote on her Facebook page on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The granddaughter did not disclose the cause of Pilita\u2019s death. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n “Pilita touched the lives of many, not only with her songs but also with her kindness and generosity. She will be remembered for her contributions to the entertainment industry, but most of all for her love of life and family,”<\/strong> the post stated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Janine asked for prayers for her grandmother. “Please join us with your prayers and kind thoughts as we celebrate her beautiful life. Further details regarding memorial services will be shared soon.” she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pilita<\/strong> or Pilar<\/strong> Garrido Corrales was born on Aug.\u00a022, 1939 to Jose Corrales and Maria Garrido in Lahug, Cebu City.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The young Pilita grew up in a conservative and affluent home. She was sent to study in a finishing school in Spain as it was the custom of well-off Spanish families. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Her father\u2019s sudden death brought Pilita back home and pursue a career in showbiz. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Plita started in Victoria, Australia in 1957 where she had her first hit \u201cCome Closer to Me.\u201d Her popularity even led to a street in Victoria named after her. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n She came back to the Philippines in 1963 and kicked off her local career through a radio program, where she sang Spanish songs and played the guitar.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Apart from radio, she also performed in stage shows at the Manila Grand Opera House.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pilita eventually appeared in movies and television, such as her iconic show \u201cYour Evening with Pilita.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n She also recorded songs, including in Spanish, in the 1960s to the 1970s. To date, she has recorded over 135 albums in her six-decade career, including her chart-topping hits \u201cA Million Thanks to You\u201d and \u201cKapantay ay Langit.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pilita is survived by her two children, Jackie Lou Blanco and Ramon Christopher \u201cMonching\u201d Gutierrez, and her grandchildren including Janine.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" ASIA’S Queen of Songs Pilita Coralles has passed away at the age of 85.
