SENATE President Francis \u201cChiz\u201d Escudero joined the 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide in welcoming the newly-elected Pope,<\/strong> Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who has made history as the first American pontiff.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Senate leader said the historic ascension of Cardinal Prevost, who has taken the name Pope Leo XIV, as the 267th Pope, marks a new chapter for the Church, offering hope and optimism to many.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cAs the Philippines, the only Christian nation in Asia, continues to stand firm in its faith, I pray that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV may inspire and lead us as we navigate the challenges that we face as a nation, Escudero said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The leader of the Senate described Pope Leo XIV not only as the spiritual leader of the Catholic community but as a moral compass in a rapidly changing world\u2014advocating for peace, justice, and compassion.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Escudero said that as head of state of the Vatican, the newly-elected Pope is a powerful voice in international affairs, fostering dialogue among nations and promoting humanitarian efforts.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n He said the new Pope represents a beacon of hope, not only for Christendom but for all of humanity, as we strive to build a world where peace prevails, wars cease, kindness flourishes, and hatred dissipates.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cIn a time when societies are fractured by discord and nations grapple with hostility, we look to him to help mend these divisions by championing the beauty of diversity, the Senate leader said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWhere minorities face alienation due to intolerance, we pray that he will stand as a powerful voice for inclusivity.
