PHILIPPINE\u00a0 National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III has warned police officers <\/strong>who fail to meet the standard weight requirements within a year that they will be dismissed from the service.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Torre said the move was to enforce discipline and improve physical fitness in the police force.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to Torre, Section 30 of Republic Act 6975 or the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990 states that uniformed personnel \u201cmust weigh not more or less than five kilograms of the standard weight corresponding to his or her height, age, and sex.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cSo ibig sabihin, kung may standard weight and height, hindi ka dapat sobra ng five kilos o hindi ka mababa,\u201d the PNP chief said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Under the existing PNP rules, overweight officers are given six months to a year to bring their weight within acceptable limits.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Failure to comply within that period will result in administrative separation.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cAfter one year, there will be separation from the service,\u201d Torre said in a radio interview.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n For those with medical conditions, the country’s top cop said they are looking at two options \u2013 either complete disability discharge or be transferred to administrative or desk duties.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n He said they will consult the National Police Commission (Napolcom) on the disposition of police officers with medical conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Losing weight is one of Torre\u2019s directives after he became the 31st chief of the police force.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Gen.
