{"id":14846,"date":"2025-06-30T10:23:23","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T02:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=14846"},"modified":"2025-06-30T10:24:31","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T02:24:31","slug":"bfar-says-tawilis-from-taal-lake-safe-to-eat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2025\/06\/30\/bfar-says-tawilis-from-taal-lake-safe-to-eat\/","title":{"rendered":"BFAR SAYS TAWILIS FROM TAAL LAKE SAFE TO EAT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Sunday said tawilis fished from Taal Lake in Batangas are safe for human consumption.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The BFAR issued the statement following a whistleblower\u2019s claims that the bodies of missing \u201csabungeros\u201d abducted in 2021 were thrown into the lake.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alias \u201cTotoy,\u201d one of the accused in the disappearance of 34 cockfighting aficionados, earlier claimed that the bodies of the abducted \u201csabungeros\u201d were thrown into Taal Lake.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to the BFAR, tawilis is a small pelagic fish that usually stays in shallow waters, and feeds on plankton.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The agency also said tawilis are not carnivorous.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The BFAR likewise clarified that other fish such as tilapia and bangus are usually cultured in fish pens, and do not freely swim in Taal Lake.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Earlier, alias \u201cTotoy\u201d claimed the killers of the missing \u201csabungeros\u201d used sandbags to keep the bodies from floating to the surface.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to alias \u201cTotoy,\u201d the \u201csabungeros\u201d were kidnapped for allegedly stealing and pirating videos of online sabong.<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Sunday said tawilis fished from Taal Lake in Batangas are safe for human consumption.
