NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation <\/strong>(NBI) Director Jaime Santiago has resigned from his post, Malaca\u00f1ang on Saturday confirmed.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Santiago cited an \u201corchestrated move to blacken his reputation”<\/strong> \u00a0as the reason for his filing of resignation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, in a test message to mediamen, confirmed that Santiago filed his resignation but did not disclose other details.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n She said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has yet to accept Santiago\u2019s resignatio<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cHe (Santiago) submitted his resignation,\u201d Castro said when asked about Santiago\u2019s resignation. \u201cThere is no comment from the President as of now,\u201d<\/strong> she added.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In his letter addressed to the President dated Aug. 15, 2025 and coursed through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin<\/strong>, Santiago said he was tendering his \u201cirrevocable resignation\u201d effective immediately upon the appointment of his replacement.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n A copy of his resignation letter \u00a0was shared with members of the media on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n He said detractors and those who have sinister interest in his position are making moves to besmirch his reputation.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Santiago did not name those behind the supposed effort to tarnish his name nor did he offer further details.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Marcos appointed Santiago as NBI chief in June 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In May 2025, Santiago submitted his courtesy resignation as part of Marcos\u2019 directive for agency heads to vacate their respective posts amid efforts to recalibrate his administration. <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n A retired judge, Santiago assumed office as NBI chief on June 14, 2024.
