THE Senate on Wednesday approved a resolution requesting the <\/strong>International Criminal Court (ICC) to hold former President Rodrigo Duterte under house arrest.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The senators cited humanitarian considerations as the reason for the appeal.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Voting 15-3-2, the Senate adopted Senate Resolution No. 28 jointly introduced by Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel \u201cMigz\u201d F. Zubiri and Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The resolution cited the former president\u2019s advanced age and deteriorating health as the basis for the appeal.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The senators urged the ICC to designate a qualified physician to assess Duterte\u2019s medical condition and determine whether continued detention would further compromise his health.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Among those who voted in favor for Duterte\u2019s house arrest were\u00a0 Senators Zubiri, Cayetano, \u00a0Ronald dela Rosa , JV Ejercito, \u00a0Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Go, \u00a0Rodante Marcoleta, \u00a0Imee Marcos, Robin Padilla and Joel Villanueva , all sponsors of the measure; \u00a0Sherwin Gatchalian,\u00a0Loren Legarda, \u00a0Erwin Tulfo, Mark Villar and Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo \u201cPing\u201d Lacson<\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Those who opposed the resolution were Senators Bam Aquino, Kiko Pangilinan. and Risa Hontiveros.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Both Senate President Vicente Sotto III, who served as the presiding officer, and Senator Raffy Tulfo abstained.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Meanwhile, Senators Camille Villar, Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid and Francis Escudero were absent during the voting.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n During the session on Wednesday, Marcoleta said justice most never be devoid of compassion.
