{"id":17400,"date":"2025-11-07T01:23:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T17:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=17400"},"modified":"2025-11-07T01:23:43","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T17:23:43","slug":"death-toll-from-tino-rises-to-114-over-100-missing-office-of-civil-defense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2025\/11\/07\/death-toll-from-tino-rises-to-114-over-100-missing-office-of-civil-defense\/","title":{"rendered":"DEATH TOLL FROM \u2018TINO\u2019 RISES TO 114, OVER 100 MISSING &#8212; OCD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>OCD: DEATH TOLL FROM \u2018TINO\u2019 RISES TO 114, OVER 100 MISSING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>THE <\/strong><strong>death toll from Typhoon \u201cTino\u201d \u00a0(international name: Kalmaegi) has risen to 114 while 127 remain missing, the Office of Civil Defense on Thursday said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Of the number of fatalities, 72 were from Region 7 or Central Visayas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Many of the victims died from widespread flooding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>OCD Deputy Administrator for Administration Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said some of the missing may have sought shelter on higher ground or have been unable to communicate due to downed cellphone signal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He said hardest hit by \u201cTino\u201d were Central and Southern Cebu followed by Negros Island Region.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On Tuesday unexpected floodwaters had rushed through Cebu province&#8217;s towns and cities, sweeping away cars, and riverside shanties.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Many of the affected residents sought refuge at the top of their houses to protect themselves from the rushing floodwaters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STATE OF CALAMITY IN BACOLOD CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bacolod City Council and the Negros Occidental Provincial Board passed separate resolutions on Thursday afternoon declaring a state of calamity following the devastation of Typhoon \u201cTino.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Acting Vice Mayor Caesar Distrito said that with the declaration, the city government can now extend financial assistance to the affected families.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Under a state of calamity, it can access the 30 percent quick response fund of the five percent calamity fund and trust fund to fast-track relief and recovery efforts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 7,895 families or 27,401 individuals were preemptively evacuated in the city.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to the Emergency Operations Center, 266 houses were destroyed and 2,028 were partially damaged due to storm surges in coastal areas, strong winds and felled trees.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor Greg Gasataya said the declaration will also allow enforcement of a price freeze on basic necessities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gov.
