{"id":18017,"date":"2025-12-29T02:10:29","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T18:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=18017"},"modified":"2025-12-29T02:10:29","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T18:10:29","slug":"resolve-senior-high-school-voucher-program-woes-gatchalian-tells-deped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2025\/12\/29\/resolve-senior-high-school-voucher-program-woes-gatchalian-tells-deped\/","title":{"rendered":"RESOLVE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL VOUCHER PROGRAM WOES, GATCHALIAN TELLS DEPED"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SENATOR Win Gatchalian has urged the Department of Education (DepEd) anew to address issues hounding the senior high school voucher program (SHS-VP), including ghost student beneficiaries and the failure to prioritize learners most in need.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gatchalian\u2019s call followed the release of the Commission on Audit\u2019s release of the DepEd\u2019s 2026 annual audit report.<\/strong><strong>The report flagged the lack of \u201cclearly defined and standardized parameters\u201d in assessing learners\u2019 financial capacity.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The state auditor pointed to instances involving beneficiaries such as unexplained absence during a monitoring visit;multiple listings in the same or another school, and having an \u201cenrolled\u201d status despite non-attendance in classes.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2024, Gatchalian led a Senate inquiry, which found that P7.21 billion was spent on non-poor beneficiaries of the SHS-VP for School Year 2020-2021. He then urged the DepEd to prioritize the poorest learners in selecting SHS-VP beneficiaries.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cNakakadismayang malaman na nagpapatuloy pa rin ang ganitong klaseng mga problema sa pagpapatupad ng seniorhigh school voucher program, na dapat sana ay nakakatulong sa mga mag-aaral nating nangangailangan.
