Marcos Jr. on Thursday led the inspection of the newly completed footbridge and concourse at the Kamuning Station of the EDSA Busway, replacing the old structure widely known as \u201cMt. Kamuning\u201d with a safer and more commuter-friendly facility.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a media interview after the inspection, President Marcos commended the early completion of the project, noting that it was finished in only four months instead of the original six-month timeline.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWell, the old one is not very good at all,\u201d President Marcos said, adding that the previous footbridge will no longer be opened to the public.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cNaayos natin ito within four months. Ang pangako sa atin ay anim na buwan. Eh apat na buwan pa lang ay tapos na.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The President said the Mt. Kamuning footbridge had long been criticized for being too steep and difficult for commuters to use. He noted that it showed signs of structural movement when people crossed it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Chief Executive described the design of the old footbridge as \u201cimpractical,\u201d citing the large number of commuters passing through the area daily.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The new covered footbridge, connected to the EDSA Kamuning Busway Station, was designed to improve safety and accessibility for commuters. It features lower stairs and elevators for commuters who cannot use the stairs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The facility also includes wheelchair lifts and available wheelchairs to assist persons with disabilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI\u2019m happy to see that this is the sort of thing that\u2026 Ito naman ay kaya naman palang gawin. Hindi naman ganoon kahirap at basta\u2019t desidido tayo na ayusin natin ang commuter experience,\u201d the President said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to the President, around 750,000 passengers use the MRT and the EDSA Busway daily, making the Kamuning station a vital structure for workers and other commuters traveling across Metro Manila.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cMahirap na nga mag-commute, mahaba, mainit kung ganoon. Eh sabi ko dapat naman ay tugunan natin \u2018yung pang-araw-araw na dinadaanan ng ating mga kababayan para makapunta sa trabaho at para makauwi,\u201d the President said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>President Marcos also assured that the footbridge will be properly maintained to ensure safer and more convenient public use.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The President was accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos and their son, William Vincent, during the inspection. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PRESIDENT Ferdinand R.
