{"id":2333,"date":"2023-11-20T21:55:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T13:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=2333"},"modified":"2023-12-19T21:56:46","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T13:56:46","slug":"boc-naia-confiscates-exotic-pests-from-thailand-declared-as-candy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2023\/11\/20\/boc-naia-confiscates-exotic-pests-from-thailand-declared-as-candy\/","title":{"rendered":"BOC-NAIA CONFISCATES EXOTIC PESTS FROM THAILAND DECLARED AS CANDY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>THE Bureau of Customs &#8211; Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) on Monday reported the confiscation in Pasay City of exotic pests from Thailand declared as candies.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said the exotic pests were hidden in postal items and intercepted at the sub-port of Central Mail Exchange Center on Nov. 13.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Through the rigorous screening of postal items, including x-ray scanning and thorough physical examination, a parcel was found to contain 50 concealed pieces of isopods, invertebrates belonging to the greater crustaceans, which were all misdeclared as candy.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The exotic pests were confiscated for lack of import clearance from the Bureau of Plant Industry, violating the Plant Quarantine Law of 1978 (PD 1433) and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bureau of Customs pledges to prevent smuggling and protect the country\u2019s borders against threats, including exotic pests, through strict border controls and reforms,\u201d Rubio said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The BOC-NAIA, led by district collector Yasmin O.
