THE City Health Office and the City Veterinary Office, on Wednesday celebrated Rabies Awareness Month 2024 through a series of activities held at the Bgy. Manggahan Covered Court in General Trias City, Cavite.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is: \u201cRabies Free na Aso’t Pusa, Kaligtasan ng Pamilyang Pilipino.”<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

As part of the Rabies Awareness Month celebration, they  conducted a motorcade followed by forums about the city human rabies status, lectures from Provincial Health Office – Veterinary Unit about rabies, its control, prevention, and animal welfare, and the dog behavior.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The event aims to bring awareness on rabies, a deadly virus which affects animals and humans.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The City Veterinary Office also conducted vaccination of dogs and cats, pre- exposure vaccination of frontliners, castration, and pet grooming.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Office of the City Veterinarian headed by Dr. Gloria Digma, along with the City Health Office of General Trias City, conducted anti-rabies vaccination, castration and rabies awareness lecture in Bgy. Manggahan Covered Court.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A total of 107 dogs and 22 cats were vaccinated against rabies,  15 pets had undergone castration, 25 dogs and cats were given free pet grooming and 12 frontliners got their pre-exposure vaccine.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Agricultural technologist Gaylord Aguilar said among the volunteer private veterinarians were Gerald Pintor, DVM; Maria Kathleen R. Dawney, DVM; Jewel L. Pintor, DVM; Jean Charmaine Macenas, DVM, Providence Veterinary Clinic, and Maria Rhodessa Delamide, with  provincial veterinarians Gladys L. Credo, DVM, and Kristine O. Ronaldo, DVM.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Digma thanked Dan Carlos Guinto, Princess V. Guinto and the Guinto Tejero Corporation for the  freebies donation during the event.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Executive Order No.84, Series of 1999 declares the month of March every year as Rabies Awareness Month.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Rabies is a preventable viral disease most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. The rabies virus infects the central nervous system of mammals, ultimately causing disease in the brain and death.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The program was conducted with the support of city officials headed by General Trias City Mayor Luis A. Jon-Jon Ferrer<\/a>, Congressman Ony Ferrer<\/a>, Vice Mayor Jonas Porto Labuguen<\/a>, Sangguniang Panlungsod members, barangay officials, and health workers.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n
