THE municipalty of Lubao in Pampanga on Thursday celebrated the 10th Sampaguita Festival by giving various forms of assistance\u00a0to some\u00a03,437 farmers, fisherfolk \u00a0and farm associations of the town.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Lubao Mayor Esmeralda Pineda said the annual celebration is\u00a0highlighted by handing of financial assistance,\u00a0fuel subsidies and goods\u00a0to local farmers and fishermen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Each beneficiary received P1,000 cash aid and five kilos of rice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A total of 48 farm associations also received fuel subsidies and financial aid worth P30,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The mayor said the assistance came\u00a0from both the provincial government of Pampanga\u00a0headed by Gov. Dennis \u201cDelta\u201d Pineda\u00a0and the local government unit of Lubao.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Gov.\u00a0Pineda was assisted by Pampanga vice-governor\u00a0Lilia \u201cNanay\u201d Pineda and \u00a0former\u00a0President\u00a0now\u00a0Pampanga 2nd<\/sup> district Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the\u00a0distribution of assistance held at the municipal hall of Lubao.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mayor Pineda and Vice Mayor Jay Montemayor  served as hosts during the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Governor Pineda said the provincial government acknowledges the sacrifices of the farmers, particularly amidst challenges such as the El Ni\u00f1o phenomenon. <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cNaghandog tayo ng tulong bilang pasasalamat sa farmers natin dahil sila ang bumubuhay sa kanilang pamilya, at sa mga kinakain po natin sa araw-araw. Sa mga ganitong okasyon, nirerecognize natin ang ating mga magsasaka,\u201d the governor said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Governor Pineda also announced the construction of a P 320-million state-of-the-art rice complex and warehouses near the bamboo hub through the joint efforts of the provincial government and Congresswoman Arroyo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Apart from the distribution of assistance, an Agri Trade Fair was also held where fresh vegetables, fruits, seedlings, and other locally-produced goods were sold.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cImportante po sa akin ang Farmers Day dahil nakakasama po namin kayo. Nakakaproud kasi dati seedlings lang iyan na ipinamigay ng munisipyo, ngayon na-harvest na. Ang daming pumupunta kasi alam nila na mura ang mabibili nila, \u201d said Mayor Pineda.<\/strong><\/p>\n
