PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, thanked Congress for its passage of the Eddie Garcia Law, crafted to protect the welfare of workers in the movie and television industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThis puts in place measures to protect the workers of the movie and television industry\u2014an industry that employs hundreds of thousands of people and generates billions of income annually,\u201d President Marcos said during the ceremonial signing of the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act in Malaca\u00f1ang.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cIt mandates movie and television employers to ensure safe and humane working conditions, provide benefits and services for their workers\u2019 security and well-being, and to adhere to a strict set of standards that are in accordance with the Labor Code,\u201d he noted.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The President also mentioned the launching of the Sukat ng Kalikasan (SnK) framework and toolkit of the DENR last May 22 during the International Day for Biological Diversity, which is the start of the implementation of the Philippine Ecosystem and Natural Capital Accounting System (PENCAS) Law.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to President Marcos, this is essential to achieving a balance between economic planning and environmental protection.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThe SnK framework is a tool for the effective management of our natural resources that is grounded on science and sufficient forward planning. It will serve as a guide amidst climate change, biodiversity loss, and energy transition, and other natural phenomena that are beyond our control,\u201d President Marcos said.<\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Both legislative measures were signed by the President last May 24.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Also, during the gathering, the President implored lawmakers from both houses of Congress to continue working together to uplift people\u2019s lives, encouraging them to craft and pass laws based on foresight and not on reaction.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cContinue building the foundations of a Bagong Pilipinas \u2013 a nation where people\u2019s needs are attended to so that they can focus on doing what is best for themselves, and for their families, and for their communities, and thereby for their country,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" PRESIDENT Ferdinand R.
