PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos on Wednesday drew inspiration from the heroism of the Filipinos\u2019 forefathers to highlight the celebration of Philippine independence.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The President led the celebration of one of Philippine\u2019s \u201cproudest moments\u2019 of its history, the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the President, the celebration is \u201cmore than just a commemoration of the birth of the Philippine Republic.\u201d It\u2019s a \u201ca strong affirmation of our century-old nationhood\u201d and the nation\u2019s duty \u201cto safeguard what our forefathers have fought and died for,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cSo that we may carry on our sacrosanct mandate to protect our country and to defend everything that is rightfully ours from those who will try to cross the redlines,\u201d President Marcos said in his toast remarks during the Vin d\u2019honneur in Malaca\u00f1an Palace<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWe must dig deep into our valiant past, draw strength from the heroism of our forefathers, and let this heritage of selflessness propel us forward into the future,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The President said the glow is not lost in the Filipinos and even highlighted that the nation\u2019s patriotic sentiments can awaken easily whenever the country\u2019s interest is tested, like a \u201cflickering flame into a fiery blaze.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cOn many occasions, great trials have all the more strengthened our resolve and unified our people because as I have said, Filipinos do not yield\u201d, President Marcos said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n As modern-day challenges surfaced against Philippine independence, the chief executive encouraged everyone to \u201cdraw inspiration from the valor, resilience, and uniting spirit\u201d of our ancestors in facing these challenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Vin d\u2019honneur is an official reception hosted by the President of the Philippines at Malaca\u00f1an Palace, traditionally held on New Year\u2019s Day and on Philippine Independence Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Vin d\u2019honneur comes from the French practice, which means \u201cwine of honor,\u201d and takes place at the end of inaugurations, speeches and ceremonies.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" PRESIDENT Ferdinand R.
