AN Imam (prayer leader) in Cebu on Monday said Muslim community in the province celebrated the Eid\u2019l Adha by sharing meals with people from all walks of life, even with non-believers of Islam.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to Ustadz Najeeb Razul, a Cebu-based Islamic scholar and also the chairman of the Majilis al Azhar Council of Elders, Muslims worldwide celebrated the Feast of Sacrifice also known as Yawm an-Nahr to mark the triumph of faith in God when Ibrahim (Abraham) was about to sacrifice his only son, Ishmael, thus giving and sharing became a norm in the celebration.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n He said in his community in Minglanilla, they slaughtered four cows and 40 goats and everybody is welcome.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n All masjids or mosques and prayer centers in Cebu shared food not only for the Muslims praying at the mosques but also to non-Muslim people in the neighborhood.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos earlier recommended that June 17 be declared a national holiday in observance of Eid\u2019l Adha.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The recommendation was approved by President Ferdinand \u201cBongbong\u201d Marcos Jr. through Proclamation No. 579 declaring a regular holiday in the country on June 17 in observance of one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Islam has two official holidays:\u00a0<\/strong>Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha<\/strong>.
