METRO Manila is now under  a state of calamity due to heavy rains and flood brought by habagat enhanced by typhoon \u201cCarina.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Metro Manila Council (MMC) on Wednesday afternoon convened at the Metropolitan \u00a0Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headquarters in Pasig City and approved the resolution placing the National Capital Region under a state of calamity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MMC made the decision after 12 of the 17 local government units voted for the state of calamity declaration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The other five LGUs were not able to participate in the meeting.
<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and MMC chairman and San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora presided over the Council meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The declaration of a state of calamity enables the local government to access emergency funds swiftly and implement relief operations to aid the displaced residents.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since Tuesday, many parts of Metro Manila have been flooded due to continuous rains.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Several roads were rendered impassable.<\/strong><\/p>\n
