A FORMER barangay official was sentenced to two years imprisonment for falsification of driver\u2019s licenses.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In a statement on Wednesday, Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said a municipal trial court in Iloilo also ordered Mary Jane Bama to pay a fine of P5,000 for her illegal activities.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Bama was convicted of five counts of falsification by a private individual under Article 172, Paragraph 1 in relation to Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The LTO in Region 6 filed the case against Bama as part of the agency\u2019s crackdown on fixers and other illegal activities.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mendoza lauded the leadership of LTO-Iloilo for going all out against fixers, resulting in the conviction of a former barangay official.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to Mendoza, it has been his stand when he assumed office to punish unscrupulous individuals using the agency in their personal interests.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The LTO chief said that the penalties meted on Bama should serve as a strong message to all people engaged in illegal activities using the LTO.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The agency, he added, wants to ensure that no clients would be duped.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cHindi tayo papayag na may mga kliyente tayong nai-scam ng mga taong ito dahil bawat sentimong kanilang binibitawan ay mahalaga dahil pinaghirapan ito,\u201d Mendoza said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cMagsilbi sana itong aral sa iba na tumigil na sa kailang mga ilegal na gawain,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A FORMER barangay official was sentenced to two years imprisonment for falsification of driver’s licenses.
