ELEVEN people on Friday died in a fire that hit a five-storey commercial-residential building in Binondo, Manila.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started at around 7:28 a.m.at the ground floor of the Pingco Building in Carvajal St., Bgy. 289.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The fire reached second alarm at 8:14 a.m. and was declared out at 10:03 a.m. of the same day.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The cost of damage was placed at 100,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Village councilor Nelson Ty confirmed that firefighters found 11 bodies inside the building after the fire was completely extinguished.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n He said among the fatalities was the spouse of the building\u2019s owner.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to Ty, the building had four residential rooms, a Chinese drug store, an eatery, and a clothing shop.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The security guard of the building told probers that the fire started at the canteen when the liquified petroleum gas (LPG) being used in the kitchen leaked.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Following the incident, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, who condoled with the families of the victims, has ordered an inspection of buildings in the city that are at least 15 years old.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The move aims to determine if the buildings are complying with the National Building Code and the Revised Fire Code of the Philippines.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" ELEVEN people on Friday died in a fire that hit a five-storey commercial-residential building in Binondo, Manila.
