PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has sought stronger ties between the Philippines and Indonesia.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n President Marcos received Indonesia\u2019s President-elect Prabowo Subianto in Malaca\u00f1ang on Friday, the first visit of the new foreign leader to the Philippines.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The President referred to Prabowo\u2019s visit as a sign of the growing relationship between the two nations.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cI think your visit here today will certainly bring a new impetus to making that relationship between Indonesia and the Philippines stronger and bigger,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Prabowo, for his part, reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the ties between Indonesia and the Philippines.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cI came here today to pay my respects because exactly one month from now, on the 20th of October, God willing, I\u2019m going to be inaugurated as President of the Republic of Indonesia and perhaps it\u2019s the Asian way, our custom before, we enter into a new position, we call on our friends,\u201d Prabowo said<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cAnd to reconfirm my commitment to strengthening the close relationship that we have had traditionally between the Philippines and Indonesia,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Philippines and Indonesia established diplomatic relations on Nov. 24, 1949.
