MAYOR Crisostomo “Cris” Garbo of Mabalacat City in Pampanga on Tuesday assured thousands of students, teachers and employees of Mabalacat City College (MCC) that the school will not halt operation.
The Mabalacat mayor issued the promise amid speculations that MCC is facing potential closure by January 2025 due to the deferment of its budget.
Around 4,500 students are enrolled in MCC, the sole public higher education institution in the city.

“I want to assure our students and the parents of my commitment that as long as I am the city mayor, you can count on continued success of our students,” Garbo said.
According to Garbo, education is one of his priorities and one of the fundamental pillars of his governance.
“MCC will continue nurturing our young Mabalaquenos,” he said.
Garbo reiterated that education should not be politicized.
“Ina-assure ko kayo na hanggang ako ang mayor, hindi pwedeng politikahin and edukasyon. Tatayo ako para ipaglaban ang kabataan para sa kanilang kinabukasan dahil naniniwala ako na ang kabataan na nagtapos ang makatutulong sa problema ng kanilang pamilya,” he noted.
Earlier, reports circulated that the MCC may stop operation by next year after its operational budget for 2025 has been deferred by the City Council.
Garbo clarified that the budget is only pending and not terminated and deliberations are ongoing for its passage.
“Kahit anong mangyari, hindi ko po kayo iiwan,” the mayor told the affected students, parents and employees.
MCC is known for producing topnotchers, the latest of which was Esna Kayla Flores who secured the 3rd spot in the Novembers 2024 Customs Broker Licensure Examination who got an impressing rating of 91.25%.
The remarkable accomplishment reflects MCC’s dedication to fostering excellence and nurturing outstanding professionals.
