CAR-RIDING WOMAN NABBED AT ECIJA CHECKPOINT FOR CARRYING P1.6-M

POLICE manning a Comelec checkpoint on Saturday arrested a 38-year-old woman for carrying over P1.6 million in cash in the Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija.

The arrest occurred during the first day of the implementation of the Commission on Election’s  three-day money ban which started last Saturday and will end until election day today, May 12.

A report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo by the Nueva Ecija police identified the suspect as alias “Gina,” of Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

The woman was flagged down while driving a red Hyundai Accent in Bgy. Poblacion West at 9:20 a.m..

During plain view inspection, patrol operatives noticed a slightly-open eco bag inside the vehicle that appeared to be full of cash.

When questioned, the woman admitted that the bag contained money amounting to P1,650,000.

The money ban prohibits persons from carrying more than P500,000 in cash, including election paraphernalia, that would be considered as an election offense called vote-buying.    

Charges for violation of Section 28 of Comelec Resolution 11104 are being readied for inquest-filing against the suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
