SEVEN fishermen on Tuesday died when a fishing vessel sank in Santa Ana, Cagayan during the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Nando.”
Six others were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The PCG said the 13 crew members were on a fishing venture and about to take shelter in an anchorage area when they were battered by strong winds and huge waves that caused the boat to capsize.
The fatalities were trapped in the engine area of the boat.
The other fishermen managed to hold on the boat’s rope until rescue arrived.
The rescued fishermen identified as Jayson Garcia, Glen Mansalapas, Jerrymar Quiap, Eric Altamarino, Jason Bago, and Ronaldo Roldan are recovering in a hospital.
