MEYCAUAYAN CITY, Bulacan — A 64-year-old female teacher and her husband on Thursday died when the motorcycle they were riding was struck by an ambulance in Bgy. Bahay Pare, this city.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr, the Bulacan police identified the fatalities as Narcisa Tubera and her husband Eduardo, 59, of Heritage Homes, Bgy. Loma De Gato, Marilao, Bulacan.
An investigation showed Eduardo was driving the motorcycle while Narcisa was his back rider.
The crash occurred on Bahay Pare Road in front of Elite Global Warehouse.
According to the police, the victims were traveling northbound on a Honda Wave motorcycle when an Isuzu Traviz ambulance driven by Ruelde Castro, 44, a barangay ambulance driver of Bahay Pare, attempted to overtake another vehicle while heading southbound.
The ambulance reportedly encroached the opposite lane and struck the victims’ motorcycle head-on, throwing the couple off the road.
Rescue personnel rushed the couple to Marymount Hospital, where the Tuberas died while undergoing treatment.
Responding policemen arrested the ambulance driver who is now in the custody of the Meycauayan City Police Station.
Police said charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property are being prepared against the ambulance driver.
