THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Taal Volcano in Batangas showed increased activity on Sunday morningwith three minor eruptions recorded within a span of just a few hours.
Phivolcs said a hydrothermal or steam-driven phreatic eruption was first detected at 2:55 a.m. followed by two short-lived phreatomagmatic bursts at 8:13 a.m. and 8:20 a.m.
The events produced grayish plumes that rose between 1,200 and 2,100 meters above the volcano’s craters.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1 (abnormal condition).
Phivolcs reminded the public that sudden steam or gas-driven explosions may occur without warning due to possible hydrothermal or tectonic activity beneath the edifice.
