CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — A passenger on Friday died after falling from a moving jeepney on MacArthur Highway in this city.
A report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. by the Pampanga police showed the tragedy occurred in front of the Our Lady of Fatima University in the City of San Fernando.
Initial investigation showed the victim boarded the jeep driven by alias Sagmit in front of Jenra Mall in Angeles City and sat beside the driver.
While the vehicle was traveling along MacArthur Highway, the driver allegedly noticed the passenger using a mobile phone.
Upon reaching MacArthur Highway, the passenger suddenly fell from the jeepney and landed on the concrete pavement, sustaining serious injuries.
Personnel from the San Fernando Rescue Unit immediately responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital, where the passenger later died from injuries sustained in the fall.
The driver was later turned over to police on the same day for proper investigation and documentation.
Probers are reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages from nearby establishments to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide are being prepared for filing in court against the jeepney driver.
