AUTHORITIES seized nearly a kilo of suspected smuggled marijuana resin declared as “men’s hiking jeans” at a local cargo facility at Clark International Airport.
Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group director Brig. Gen. Dionisio B. Bartolome said the drugs were found concealed in a shipment declared as clothing materials during an airport interdiction operation at the Clark Airport Cargo Facility.
Operatives subjected the parcel to further examination after a Bureau of Customs x-ray examiner detected a suspicious image during screening, prompting immediate action of members of the Clark Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group.
A K9 paneling indicated the presence of illegal drugs, leading to a detailed manual examination of the shipment declared as “men’s relaxed fit hiking jeans.”
An initial investigation revealed that the parcel originated from the United States and was consigned to a resident of Valenzuela City.
Found inside the package was one black-and-white transparent plastic pouch hidden among the clothing. The pouch contained two small transparent plastic pouches filled with a sticky yellowish substance suspected to be “marijuana resin.”
One of the pouches contained approximately 444 grams while the other had 424 grams worth around P57,869.56.
An investigation is ongoing into the foiled smuggling try.
