FIVE persons under police custody (PUPCs) on Friday died after a police mobile vehicle they were riding crashed into a concrete wall in Bgy. Payatas, Quezon City.
An investigation showed the six PUPCs and four Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel escorting them were aboard the police car on their way to Quezon City Jail when it crashed past 11 a.m. on Friday.
Emergency and health personnel rushed the victims to the nearby Rosario Maclang General Hospital, where five of the PUPCs were declared dead by the attending physician.
Authorities said the four police escorts sustained injuries, while one detainee remains in critical condition.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Rany Glenn Silvio has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident and identify possible liabilities.
The local government assured full assistance to the affected families, including medical support, as well as funeral and burial expenses for the deceased.
The PNP has expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash.
“We assure the public that appropriate assistance is being extended in coordination with the concerned local government and other relevant agencies,” a PNP social media post stated.
