A BROADCASTER was shot dead in Misamis Occidental early Sunday morning.
Juan Jumalon known as Johnny Walker, 57, was gunned down while doing a live broadcast in his home-based radio program 94.7 Calamba Gold FM in Bgy. Don Bernardo A. Neri, Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
The gun attack occurred at 5:35 a.m. Sunday.
Jumalon was rushed to Calamba District Hospital, where he succumbed to a gunshot wound in his face.
Members of the Calamba Municipal Police Station put up checkpoints and conducted a dragnet operation to arrest the killer.
Police Regional Office 10 director Brig. Gen. Ricardo G. Layug Jr. said the motive and identity of the gunman is still being investigated.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. condemned the killing of Jumalon and ordered the Philippine National Police to give justice to the slain mediaman.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) also denounced the murder of Jumalon.
According to the NUJP, the killing came barely three days after journalists in the country observed the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists on November 2.
Jumalon’s killing is the 199th since 1986 and the fourth under the present administration.
