PHILIPPINE National Police spokesperson Col. Jean S. Fajardo said 37 employees of the Davao City Hall tested positive for illegal drugs and not the city policemen as earlier reported.
The PNP leadership said those who tested positive for substance abuse were members of the City Public Safety and Security Office.
“Let me correct reports that there were 37 Davao City policemen who tested positive for drugs. The truth is that they are all civilian employees of the Davao City Hall and it was not the PNP Forensic Group which subjected them to a drug test,” said PNP spokesperson Col. Jean S. Fajardo.
Fajardo said they are quite sure that Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte won’t take the incident sitting down and would surely act on the matter expeditiously.
“Alam po natin na hindi ipagwawalang-bahala ni Mayor Baste ‘yan. I’m prretty sure na aaksiyunan ni Mayor ‘yan,” Fajardo told a press briefing at Camp Crame.
Public Safety and Security Office head Angel Sumagsay said the 37 were job order employees, mostly assigned at the Davao City Civil Security Unit, that helps maintain peace and order in the city.
The official said they requested for the conduct of the random drug test last May 3 and 13.
She said any of the 37 may volunteer to be enrolled in a city’s drug rehabilitation program.
