CAVITE Gov. Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr. on Thursday announced that fish caught in the waters of Cavite are now safe to eat.
Remulla made the announcement on his social media page.
In his post, Remulla said fish from the coastal waters of Cavite are now safe for human consumption after almost a month of prohibition due to the oil spill caused by the sunken MV Terra Nova.
Meanwhile, he said other seafood products such as clams (halaan), mussles (tahong), and oysters (talaba) are still going through further testing.
Remulla issued the announcement after receiving confirmation from Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tui Laurel Jr..
The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on August 13 cleared the fish products caught in the provinces of Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Remulla also said in his Facebook post that the total damage to fishermen, seafood vendors and those who make a living related to fishing have reached more than one billion pesos.
He appealed to the management of MV Terra Nova and its owners to show some concern for his countrymen, whose livelihoods were seriously affected of their negligence.
