THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that all 23 Filipino seafarers aboard the MT Sounion, which was attacked by Houthi rebels off the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, are safe.
The DMW said the seafarers were successfully rescued by the French Navy and are currently en route to a safe port.
This update was shared by the DMW following information from the Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain, Anne Jalando-on Louis, and confirmed by Philippine Defense Attachés Captain Gacusan and Captain Romeo Marana.
The DMW, together with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administraiton (OWWA), is working on the immediate repatriation of our seafarers.
Upon their return, they will receive full support, including psycho-social, financial, training, and reintegration assistance.
“We are deeply grateful for the swift actions that ensured the safety of our seafarers. Our thoughts remain with them and their families during this time,” the DMW said.
