INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Benjamin C. Abalos Jr. on Sunday night (September 8,2024) said that fugitive Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy was captured in Davao City.
In a Facebook post, Abalos wrote in all cap: “Nahuli na po si Apollo Quiboloy.”
A photo of the self-proclaimed “Son of God” was attached to one of Abalos’ Facebook posts.
Quiboloy was arrested following a relentless manhunt operations by agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City.
PNP chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil confirmed the capture of Quiboloy who is set to be flown into Manila and held temporarily at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
There were no other details provided regarding the arrest of Quiboloy.
The KOJC leader is wanted for several counts of sexual abuse and human trafficking.
Quiboloy is also on the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation’s most wanted list.
Meanwhile, in a statement, attorney Ferdinand S. Topacio, legal counsel of Quiboloy clarified that his client surrendered and he was not arrested .
Topacio emphasized that Quiboloy voluntarily surrendered to the Intelligence Service Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP).
He said Quiboloy was not arrested by the Philippine National Police under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Topacio criticized Abalos for seemingly taking credit for what he described as a non-existent arrest.
“It is misleading for Secretary Abalos to appear to take credit for a non-existent arrest. His remarks underscore the ongoing tensions surrounding the case and the public discourse from various officials.
Topacio reassured the public that Pastor Quiboloy’s legal team is committed to protecting his rights under the Constitution.
They will continue to advocate for his legal interests as they prepare for his defense against any allegations.
