A LANDSLIDE that hit a village in Talisay, Batangas amid heavy rains brought by severe tropical storm Kristine on Thursday night has left 18 people dead and two others missing.
Authorities said most of the victims in the landslide that occurred in Purok B, Bgy. Sampaloc in Talisay were children.
Police Regional Office 4A spokesperson Lt. Col. Chitadel Gaoiran said four more bodies — two young women, a boy, and an elderly woman – were recovered at around 5 p.m. on Friday, adding to the 14 who were recovered earlier that day.
Search and retrieval operations for the two missing persons were suspended for the night due to the hazardous conditions in the area and resumed the following day.
Elmer Dejucos, a resident of the barangay, said his wife and two-year-old child were among those reported as missing.
Over 5,000 families or 17,700 individuals were in 266 evacuation centers and another 1,402 families were staying outside evacuation centers in Batangas.
“Kristine” left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday afternoon.
