TWO were reported killed when an oil tanker vessel caught fire at the anchorage area in Batangas Sunday, October 22. The names of the victims were being verified. According to the Coast Guard Station Batangas, they received a phone call informing that a fire hit Motor Tanker Sea Horse at the Alpha Anchorage Area, Batangas around 9 a.m. yesterday.
The Coast Guard Batangas immediately coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection, BRP Bagacay and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office for assistance. The Batangas PCG also launched search and rescue operation. Three tugboats – Motor Tug Greek Lark, Motor Tug Sedan 7, and Motor Tug Sedan 8—that were nearby the scene promptly assisted the affected ship. Joint Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard Diesel Fast Boat, together with the Bureau of Fire Protection, conducted fire combat operation onboard the vessel.
Authorities declared a fire out at around 11:08 a.m. on the same day.
