CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — A 52-year-old businessman running for barangay kagawad was arrested for alleged vote buying in Bulacan.
Nabbed was Danilo Sebastian, a trader, and a resident of 309 Gulod St., Bgy. Bagong Barrio, Pandi, Bulacan, according to a report submitted to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr..
Sebastian is a barangay kagawad candidate running as independent.
Seized from Sebastian were cash amounting to P35,840 in different denominations, Department of Social Welfare and Development general intake sheets, and sample ballots.
The arrest was reported to the regional Commission on Elections and coordinated with Gina Llave, election officer IV of Pandi, Bulacan.
Sebastian is now under the custody of the Pandi police for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
Hidalgo stressed the commitment of the Central Luzon police to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming elections.
The Central Luzon top cop reminded the public that vote buying is an election offense punishable by one to six years imprisonment.
He added that Sebastian’s arrest underscored the dedication of law enforcement agencies to maintain the fairness and legality of the electoral process, ensuring that the public can exercise their right to vote without interference or manipulation.
