TWO Chinese nationals were arrested while 16 trafficked workers of various nationalities were rescued in a raid by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in an alleged scam center in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Nabbed were Huan Heng Su and De Long Wang, both Chinese nationals.
The arrested suspects were subjected to inquest proceedings at the Angeles City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) or serious illegal detention.
Joint forces from the NBI-Pampanga District Office (PAMDO), NBI-Central Luzon Regional Office (CELRO), and NBI-International Operations Division (IOD) launched the raid.
The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by the Filipina partner of one of the Chinese victims, asserting that her boyfriend, employed in the scam center, was unlawfully confined by his employers.
According to the complainant, her boyfriend was forced to work against his will for 18 hours a day.
She added that the employers would issue threats of torture and physical harm if the victims opted to resign from their positions.
On November 21, 2023, the joint task force rescued the victim and arrested the suspects.
The other workers, primarily of Chinese descent, were also rescued from the suspected scam hub.
The rescued Chinese and other foreign nationals were turned over to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for deportation proceedings.
