THE Bureau of Customs Port of Cagayan de Oro, in collaboration with the BOC Intelligence Group (IG), intercepted on December 15, 2023 two smuggled luxury vehicles misdeclared as used truck replacement parts at the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The shipment from Korea consigned to M. Aguila Car Trading arrived in Misamis Oriental on December 12, 2023 and was declared as 1,045 pieces of truck replacement parts.
It was found to contain two units of Porsche, with an estimated value of 30 million pesos.
Upon receiving derogatory information, the BOC Intelligence Group requested the Port of Cagayan de Oro to issue a Pre-Lodgment Control Order (PLCO) against the subject shipment.
This was followed by a joint spot-check examination request from CIIS CDO and Surigao Field Station chief Oliver Valiente and XIP CDO chief Jenkinn Gutierrez.
Acting district collector Alexandra Y. Lumontad promptly issued an alert order for a full examination of the container, leading to the discovery of the smuggled luxury vehicles.
A warrant of seizure and detention will be issued against the shipment for violation of Section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of Republic Act 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio said: “Our ports are steadfast in protecting our borders to ensure that goods are thoroughly inspected, preventing illicit cargo entry.”
The Port of Cagayan de Oro aligns its mission with the five-point priority program of the BOC to combat smuggling.
